COMPLIANCE PROGRAMS
Don't overlook the compliance health of your practice! Establishing and operating a corporate compliance program is emerging as a standard industry practice for healthcare. Care should be taken to assure that the plan or system adopted is designed for the specific size and operation of the organization.
An effective compliance program can further the mission of all providers to provide quality care for their patients. Other benefits may include:
- Development of effective internal procedures to ensure compliance with regulations, payment policies and coding rules
- Improved medical record documentation
- Improved education for employees
- A reduction in the denial of claims
- More streamlined operations through better communications and more comprehensive policies
- The avoidance of potential liability arising from noncompliance
- Reduced exposure to penalties
TCD has tools to assist practices in assessing and analyzing the compliance status of the internal operations of their facility including policies and procedures, coding and billing, medical records and physical plant. The results of the analysis can serve as a "road map" for developing a compliance program.
